Description
We're big fans of kydex based magazine retention from companies like Esstac. At the same time, for airborne & maritime operations, FRIES, and for many agencies and departments, positive retention is required. There are also other situations where bungee retention is advisable or desirable so we designed Bungee Retention Adapters to create a solution for pouches and placards that do not include built in attachment points.
There are several design features that make our adapters unique:
- They work inside of pouches, like Esstac KYWIs that do not have hook/loop interfaces on both sides
- By passing underneath the insert, they provide superior retention to solutions that just mount to the sides of the pouch. This also means you can use these to adjust the ride height of things like magazines in a placard or pouches like the Spiritus JSTA making them easier to access.
- Tegris® / CURV® tabs for attaching our High Grip Bungee Retainers. Tegris® / CURV® is an advanced thermoplastic that is extremely strong, durable, and lightweight. It is also NIR compliant. This keeps the Bungee Retention Adapters slim making it easy to reindex.
- NOTE: We are in the process of switching from Tegris® to CURV® When you select the Bungee Retention Adapter size the photo will show you if it is Tegris® (silver color) or CURV® (dark gray).
Sizing Guide:
- Measure the height of your pouch or placard to determine the size you need. The standard heights we offer correspond to the three Esstac sizes as well as most other major pouches and placards on the market e.g. Spiritus Systems, Ferro Concepts, Shaw Concepts, Crye Precision, Defensive Mechanisms, Agilite, etc.
- Short: 3.25-3.5" (Standard/Shorty Esstac)
- Medium: 4.25-4.5" (Midlength Esstac)
- Tall: 5.25-5.5" (Tall Esstac/most placards)
FAQs:
- Q: Do these adapters work with XYZ carrier or pouch?
- A: As long as the carrier or pouch has hook or loop on at least one side of the inside these will work.
- Q: Do these work without kydex inserts, for example, my placard has an elastic insert to hold magazines?
- A: Yes, as long as your pouch has hook/loop these will work. Any insert that has hook/loop on at least one side will work them as well.
- Q: What's the difference between pistol and rifle Bungee Retention Adapters?
- A: Pistol are 1" wide and Rifle are 2" wide - this is to match with industry standard pouches.
- Q: Will these retain other items such as multi-tools, tourniquets, etc?
- A: Yes, the High Grip Bungee Retainers are adjustable to the amount of tension you need for your application.
- Q: Are the High Grip Bungee Retainers included?
- A: Yes
Some time ago I had purchased an LBE setup that had double kangaroo pouches on the chest area. The primary mag pouches had this same shock cord retention built-in from the factory, however the pistol mags had zero retention. First use I had pistol mags pop out while running, almost cost me some serious coin. After quite some figuring and researching I found this Forge Concepts option. My pistol pouches had zero Velcro on them so I cut small strips of Velcro, attached it to the Forge Concepts product which I then wrapped around my mag, using fabric glue on the back of the Velcro I slid the whole unit into my mag pouch and let dry for 24 hours. Worked like a charm, can slide 2 mags in and with the Forge Concepts product it get excellent retention and no longer have any fear of my mags popping out while running, crawling, or climbing an obstacle course. Excellent, and easy mod. Will definitely purchase again should I ever have the need.
i bought these for my kywi pistol carriers for the added retention. They are perfect! Thank you for creating a much needed simple solution for those of us that use these kywi pouches but require the added retention occasionally. If you want to retain the debris hole at the bottom, just punch through with an awl and/or use a paper hole punch.

I bought these for duty use on a 3 magazine ESSTAC pouch. These added retention to the plastic inside securing the magazine incase you forget or choose not to use the retention strap . Easy to install and looks great . Quality product .
I perfect fit for a wellsmade chest rig. Forge was prompt and professional. Unlike wellsmade who customer service sucked.

Bang for your money,I know it doenst flow. Okay so other brands tend to give you just a bungee and pull tab but these fellas tought outside the box and instead of making you tie your retention on the molle infront of your mag you can put it inside just sandwiched like a tactical Oreo.

Works great. Easy to install. Good rubber thumb retention grip keeps it from sliding off mag unlike other fabric or poly materials. Would highly recommend!
Amazing product. I use it daily for my placard on my carrier for work and it works wonders. Need the positive retention for certain applications.
Perfect fit for Esstac
I wear the normal Esstac rifle and pistol pouches on duty. I’ve enjoyed them but I do find the retention to be a little loose while doing fast rope type exercises. I was looking for a way to have some better retention and I stumbled upon Forge Concepts.
I reached out and was able to receive the bunjee retention kit for my pouches. This small product has improved my retention for my magazines and gives me comfort while doing training exercises. I’ve been asked by many team members on how they can get their hands on this product.
I sent an email when they were out of stock and they were able to get them to me personally which I really appreciated. These are a clever design and work great as intended. Great quality from Forge.

I ordered the for the kywis on my belt. Installation was a breeze and the ability to set the added retention is amazing. They arrived shortly before a culminating platoon attack exercise, and after transiting the gear snatching woods of Camp Lejuene, I was the only one who did not need to go back and find a mag during range clean up. I can not recommend these enough.
Simply put, these retainers add extra security for the Esstac mag holders.
Great product, does what it's supposed to and easy install.
A simple and effective way to add retention to Kywi's. My only complaint is that this makes it noticably more difficult to insert/remove magazines from the pouch and you really have to pull on them to get them out, however if your goal is maximum retention then this isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Thank you for your review! Based on feedback from you and others we revised the design with what you now see on the site. The new version substantially reduces the chickness making it a lot easier to insert/remove magazines than before.
Needed retention for some mag pouches on my belt for an upcoming joyride since all that cool high angle rescue stuff requires retention for mags. CS was incredible, couple emails and a custom order later I had the product on my kit and in use in 6 days. Will be buying more from here
My department requires our mags to have retention so adding these to my Tim Kennedy signature pistol mag pouch has solved that problem. The medium 4.25 fits that pouch perfectly. The retention is easily adjustable too. These are fantastic!
